Caleb Muntz’s exceptional performance in the FIJI Water Flying Fijians’ 24-19 victory over Wales has earned high praise from head coach Mick Byrne. Muntz demonstrated his prowess by successfully converting four penalty kicks, scoring a try, and adding a conversion, playing a crucial role in avenging the team’s previous 26-32 defeat to Wales during the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

His agility, skill, and flair on the field were instrumental in his recognition as the player of the match, contributing 19 points in a fiercely competitive game. Coach Byrne commended Muntz for his remarkable growth, noting that despite being a young player with only one full season of Super Rugby under his belt and suffering an injury during the World Cup, he has made significant strides in his performance.

“It’s not common for fly-halves to perform like that in Principality Stadium, which is a challenging venue,” Byrne remarked, expressing pride in Muntz’s electrifying display. The Flying Fijians faced challenges during the match, with winger Semi Radradra sent off for a dangerous tackle and Elia Canakaivata penalized for infringing at a rolling maul, leading to a penalty try for Wales. Josua Tuisova also showcased his strength, scoring a try by fending off two Welsh defenders.

Looking ahead, the Flying Fijians will play against Spain at 2 am on Sunday before concluding their season with a match against Ireland next week.

This victory not only highlights Muntz’s potential as a key player for Fiji but also brings renewed hope for the team as they prepare for their upcoming matches. With a young and talented squad, the future looks bright for the Flying Fijians, and their recent success could be a stepping stone toward greater achievements.
