Multiple raids conducted over the past 24 hours have resulted in the discovery of alleged illicit substances and money suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, reported that officers searched a group of youths working at a farm in Tabia yesterday, where dried leaves believed to be marijuana were found. Arrests were made at the scene.
In another raid by the Narcotics and Crime Intel Unit alongside the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Vunivau, several packets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana and money suspected to be from the sale of illegal substances were seized. A suspect was taken into custody.
The Cakau Operations team also seized plants believed to be marijuana from the Tacilevu area this morning. The owner of the farm is known to the police, and efforts are ongoing to locate him.
Additionally, officers from the Western K9 Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs early this morning in Waqadra, Western Division. Upon searching the vehicle, parcels of white substances believed to be methamphetamine were found inside a bag. Three men were taken in for questioning, and all seized substances have been sent for analysis.
ACP Driu stated that the successful raids were a result of information shared by members of the public. He expressed appreciation for the public’s assistance and issued a warning to those involved in the illicit trade that they will be caught.
