A series of raids launched during the past day unveiled alleged illegal substances and cash thought to be proceeds from criminal activities. The Assistant Police Commissioner for Operations, Livai Driu, stated that officers found dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in a search of a group of youths cutting cane at a Tabia farm. Arrests followed this discovery.
In another raid, the Narcotics and Crime Intel Unit along with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) seized several packages of dried leaves presumed to be marijuana and cash believed to be earnings from the sale of illegal substances in Vunivau. They also arrested a suspect during the operation.
In the Northern Division, officers from the Cakau Operations team confiscated plants they believed to be marijuana from the Tacilevu region. The farm owner is familiar to the police, who are currently trying to track him down.
In yet another operation in Waqadra in the Western Division, authorities from the Western K9 Unit and FDDU intercepted a vehicle thought to be transporting drugs. A vehicle search led to the discovery of a bag that contained parcels of a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. Officers took three men into custody for further questioning.
All seized substances have been forwarded for lab testing. According to ACP Driu, the successful operations were largely due to the cooperation and information sharing by the public. Driu emphasized that this cooperation should serve as a warning to those involved in illegal trade that they will eventually get caught.
