Multiple Raids Across Fiji Uncover Illicit Drugs and Proceeds of Crime

Within the past day, multiple busts led to the recovery of alleged illegal drugs and what is believed to be ill-gotten money. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that a group of youths found with suspected marijuana while they were cutting cane at a Tabia farm have been arrested.

In an unconnected operation, the Narcotics and Crime Intel Unit along with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) carried out a perturbation in Vunivau, which led to the confiscation of several packages of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, as well as cash thought to be profits from illegal drug sales. A person was arrested in the process.

Additionally, the Cakau Operations team, operating in the Northern Division, confiscated what they believe are marijuana plants from the Tacilevu area. The farm’s owner is known to the police, and a search for him is in progress.

ACP Driu also reported that in the Western Division’s Waqadra, the Western K9 Unit and FDDU identified a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs earlier today. A sack containing packets of a white substance, believed to be methamphetamine, were discovered upon inspection. Three people have been detained for interrogation in relation to this.

All confiscated substances have been sent for verification. ACP Driu credits the successful operations to tip-offs from the public, expressing gratitude for the shared information and warning those engaged in the illegal drug trade that they won’t go unnoticed.
