The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is set to bolster its surveillance and inspections at major ports and jetties throughout the festive season. CEO Joweli Cawaki announced this proactive measure, highlighting the surge in demand for maritime travel during this busy time of year.

Cawaki expressed a commitment to maintaining the safety of Fiji’s maritime environment, particularly during this festive period, which can present various risks. “Through enhanced monitoring and cooperation with our partners, we aim to ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday season,” he stated.

To achieve this, MSAF will collaborate with various agencies to conduct routine safety checks that ensure compliance with established regulations. The focus will be on certifying boat captains, assessing the condition of vessels, and verifying the number of passengers aboard. Any instances of non-compliance or unsafe operations will be addressed immediately.

Cawaki emphasized that while MSAF plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, public involvement is equally important. He encouraged the public to report any unsafe practices they observe, contributing to a safer maritime environment for everyone.

This initiative is not just about stricter regulations; it represents a community effort to ensure safety during a lively and bustling period. By working together, authorities and residents can create a worry-free festive experience on Fiji’s waters.

This thorough approach by MSAF is reassuring and demonstrates their dedication to safety in maritime travel, forging a positive outlook for the holidays ahead.
