An Independent Opposition Member of Parliament has voiced her dismay over the recent changes to parliamentary procedures, specifically the reduction of speaking time from 20 to 15 minutes and the shortening of Parliament sessions from two weeks to one.

While responding to the 2024-2025 National Budget in Parliament, MP Kumar highlighted that speaking time and the number of speakers on key motions have been curtailed over the last 18 months.

“This isn’t democracy, Mr. Speaker Sir,” she remarked.

“This House belongs to the people, and they deserve sufficient time for us to debate and scrutinize important issues affecting them,” she stated.
