Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Motikiai Murray is preparing for an exciting 2025 season as he reflects on his journey through the 2024 campaign. Murray recognizes the lessons learned from last season and is committed to self-improvement heading into the new year.
“I had a lot of learnings to take from 2024, and I’ve been working hard during this pre-season to become a better version of myself in 2025,” he expressed, highlighting his determination to enhance his skills. He is particularly focused on refining his defensive techniques and tackling strategies, as well as increasing his explosiveness and carrying ability on the field.
“I’ve been working on my defence and my tackle strategies to carry hard and be explosive on the field. I’m looking forward to this 2025 season,” Murray added with enthusiasm.
Originating from Ovalau, Murray has an impressive rugby resume. He made his debut for the Drua during their inaugural Super Rugby season in 2023 in Christchurch and captained the Fiji U20 team to a commendable top 10 finish at the Junior World Cup in South Africa that same year. His experience also includes playing for the Fijian Warriors and representing Suva’s U19 team, showcasing his leadership capabilities early in his career.
Outside of rugby, Murray enjoys playing volleyball, showcasing his diverse athletic interests. With his relentless work ethic and focused mindset, he is well-poised to make a significant impact in the 2025 season, strengthening his position in the Drua lineup.
