The Motibhai Group, a Fiji-owned business conglomerate, is making significant strides in the Northern Division with the development of a new environmentally responsible distribution center in Labasa. The ambitious project is set to cost $8.5 million and aims to enhance operational efficiency while bolstering supply chain services in the region.
According to Jinesh Patel, the executive director of Motibhai Group, this distribution center marks a substantial investment in the north. “It reflects our long-term commitment to the people of the Northern Division, improving service delivery, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable environmental practices,” Patel noted in a recent statement.
The project’s significance extends beyond mere construction; it also signifies new opportunities for employment and economic growth in the area. Investment Fiji has played a crucial role in facilitating regulatory requirements for the project, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the local economy. Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty expressed appreciation for Motibhai Group’s vision and confidence in a strengthening domestic economy.
Chetty emphasized that such substantial capital investments are vital for transforming the northern region into a bustling economic hub for Vanua Levu. He stated, “The Motibhai Group’s new distribution center is a prime example of the high-impact domestic investment we are witnessing in the north. This facility not only strengthens the region’s supply chain capacity but also generates meaningful employment and enhances the standard of services available to the people of Vanua Levu.”
The distribution center will feature a warehouse spanning over 1,500 square meters, complemented by a 192-square-meter ground-floor office block, and a 185-square-meter first-floor manager’s apartment. To ensure safety, the facility will incorporate upgraded drainage infrastructure, enhanced safety features such as a setback block wall with fire-rated doors, and integrated solar energy systems.
The construction of this state-of-the-art facility will be carried out by Total Infrastructure Fiji PTE Ltd, with an anticipated completion timeline of 44 weeks. The project involves collaboration with architectural and design consultants LHM (Larsen Holton Maybin), civil and structural engineering services from Engineered Designs, and building services engineering from Irwin Alsop Pacific PTE Ltd.
This ambitious undertaker by Motibhai Group not only represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainable development but also aims to uplift the Northern Division’s economy, benefitting both the community and the environment.
