The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has confirmed that Mosese Rauluni has stepped down from his role as head coach of the Vodafone XV team. This decision was made in light of recent performances that fell short of the high standards Mosese established, and his desire to return to Australia to be with his family.
Mosese expressed his gratitude in a statement, thanking the Fijian Drua, FRU staff, board, and players for their support during his tenure. He wished the team and staff success as they prepare for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.
Throughout his time as the head coach of the Vodafone XV, Mosese demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to the team’s development, including significant contributions to the Fijian women’s national 15s team. Since his appointment as head coach of both the Fijiana 15s and the Fijian Drua Super W team in late 2023, he led the Fijian Drua to its third consecutive Super W Grand Final in 2024, as well as guiding the Fijiana national team to qualify for the 2025 Rugby World Cup, winning the Oceania Championship and achieving their first-ever victory against Japan.
Mosese also oversaw the centralization of the rugby program in Nadi, which has been beneficial for players and staff alike, allowing them to envision a promising future pathway. The rise of players like Atelaite Buna, Salanieta Kineta, and Repeka Tove this year reflects the positive environment he fostered.
FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu acknowledged Mosese’s decision, highlighting the importance of family and expressing gratitude for his hard work and dedication to Fijian rugby. He also noted that Mosese’s leadership will be greatly missed by the FRU and the wider rugby community.
The FRU will start the search for a new head coach for both the Vodafone XV team and Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua, wishing Mosese the best in his future endeavors and hoping he finds happiness with his family in Australia. Mosese will fulfill his contract with the FRU following the Vodafone Fijiana XV’s participation in WXV 3 in Dubai, with their final match scheduled against Spain at 4:30 AM this Sunday morning.
