Britain’s Royal Mail has unveiled a delightful new series of stamps celebrating the unique humor of the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python. This 10-stamp set, announced on Thursday, honors some of the most iconic characters and catchphrases from the group’s rich history, including memorable moments such as “Nudge, nudge” and “The Lumberjack Song.”

Among the series, six stamps illustrate scenes from the classic television show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” highlighting fan-favorite sketches like “The Spanish Inquisition,” “The Ministry of Silly Walks,” “Dead Parrot,” and “The Nude Organist.” Additionally, four stamps commemorate the 50th anniversary of the beloved film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” featuring the unforgettable Black Knight, who defiantly asserts, “’Tis but a scratch.”

David Gold, the director of external affairs at Royal Mail, expressed that the collection pays tribute to a body of work that has significantly influenced comedy for nearly six decades. Michael Palin, one of the surviving members of Monty Python, humorously noted his excitement about sharing a stamp with the nude organist.

Monty Python, which originally comprised Michael Palin, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Graham Chapman, revolutionized satire with their surreal and often absurd style of comedy. They made their mark on British TV from 1969 to 1974, producing several films that include “And Now for Something Completely Different,” “Monty Python’s Life of Brian,” and “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life.”

While the group has largely disbanded since the 1980s, the surviving members reunited for live shows in 2014, keeping the spirit of Python alive. As the world continues to navigate varying challenges, these stamps serve not only as a nostalgic reminder of the laughter and joy Monty Python brought to audiences but also as an opportunity to celebrate the enduring impact of creative expression in our lives. The stamps are available for pre-order now and will go on sale on August 14.

This release reiterates the importance of comedy in uplifting spirits and connecting people, particularly in times when joy and laughter are essential to well-being.
