Montoya’s Major Move: Former Warrior Heads Back to Australia

Marcelo Montoya, a former player for the Fiji Bati, will be departing from the New Zealand Warriors to return to Australia. At 28 years old, he has received an early release from his contract, which was originally set to expire at the end of next season.

Warriors’ general manager of recruitment, pathways, and development, Andrew McFadden, expressed satisfaction over Montoya’s decision, stating, “We were happy for Marcelo to see out his contract with us but we’re really pleased he has found a club back in Australia giving him longer term security.” He also recognized Montoya’s significant contributions both on and off the field during his four-year stint with the club, wishing him and his wife Tayla well for the future.

Montoya is anticipated to rejoin his former team, the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, with a two-year contract. During his time with the Warriors, he scored 30 tries in 82 matches and played in all 27 games this season.
