Solomon Islander Tigi Molea played a pivotal role in Labasa’s 4-1 triumph over Nadi during the first Super Premier semifinal of the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship, held at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The Babasiga Lions adapted effectively to the wet conditions, launching various attacking plays right from the start. In the 19th minute, a foul on Christopher Wasasala earned Labasa a penalty. However, Wasasala missed the shot, sending the ball over the cross-bar. He quickly redeemed himself by assisting Molea for the first goal in the 26th minute. Molea expertly controlled the pass and tapped it into the net, giving Labasa a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Molea extend Labasa’s advantage in the 54th minute with a composed finish, delicately chipping the ball into the left corner of the net. Labasa continued to dominate, adding a third goal in the 66th minute through Wasasala, who capitalized on the relentless pressure from his team.
Nadi managed to score one back with a goal from central defender Tuiba Batiratu. However, Labasa maintained control of the match and secured their victory with a late goal from Ilisoni Loloivalu, whose shot deflected off the goalkeeper in injury time.
