A moist southeasterly wind flow will keep much of Fiji under cloud with frequent showers and pockets of heavy rain through tonight and into Saturday. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and localised heavy falls could cause flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the southeast and seas moderate to rough.
The heaviest and most persistent rain is forecast for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata, with occasional heavy falls also affecting parts of Vanua Levu. Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and likely afternoon or evening thunderstorms, temperatures around 25 to 32°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba should be mostly fine apart from afternoon or evening showers but are also at risk of thunderstorms with heavy falls; highs near 34°C.
Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands will see cloudy periods with some showers and the chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls, while Yasawa and the Mamanuca group should be fine apart from isolated late‑day showers. Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and parts of northern Vanua Levu will have occasional showers with isolated heavy falls, with conditions easing in some areas later in the day. Temperatures across the islands will generally be in the mid‑20s to low‑30s Celsius.
Marine conditions remain choppy with moderate to rough seas under the southeasterly flow; small craft and coastal activities should take the rougher conditions into account. Rotuma is under a generally easterly flow but a trough is expected to affect the island from later today, bringing gradually increasing showers and the chance of occasional thunderstorms; winds and seas there are forecast to be moderate.
The outlook for Saturday shows a continuation of cloudy periods and showers for the same divisions, with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy falls expected again over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Given the potential for localised heavy rain and flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, residents in vulnerable locations should remain alert and heed any local advisories.
