A moist easterly wind flow is bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms across Fiji with the greatest activity expected over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Occasional heavy falls are likely in several coastal and interior areas, and localised heavy rain may cause flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Through to midnight tomorrow, Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata can expect occasional showers with isolated heavy falls. Taveuni, nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and surrounding islands will see cloudy periods with some showers. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine apart from afternoon or evening showers, but afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Winds are moderate from the east and will become moderate to fresh from tomorrow, with seas currently moderate and increasing to moderate to rough beginning tomorrow. The outlook for Friday remains unsettled for many areas, with cloudy periods and showers across the southern and eastern provinces and continued chance of afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Southeasterly winds are expected to be moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough.
Local notes: Navua, Suva and Nausori will have occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and likely afternoon or evening thunderstorms (tomorrow: Min 24°C, Max 31°C; Friday outlook Min 24°C, Max 32°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba remain mostly fine apart from late‑day showers but can expect afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls (tomorrow: 22–34°C; Friday: 23–34°C). Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Tavua/Rakiraki, Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, the outer island groups and Kadavu are all likely to see periods of showers with possible heavy afternoon or evening thunderstorms; Rotuma is affected by a trough with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh easterlies and moderate to rough seas (Rotuma tomorrow: 25–31°C; Friday outlook 25–32°C).
Residents and visitors in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas should be aware of the risk of localised flash flooding during heavy downpours. Marine interests and small craft operators should note seas and winds are expected to increase from tomorrow and exercise caution.
