Moana Pasifika Strengthens Squad with Wallabies Star Pone Fa’amausili

Moana Pasifika has strengthened its forward line by signing Wallabies prop Pone Fa’amausili for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. Weighing in at 130kg and standing 196cm tall, Fa’amausili has seven test caps for Australia, with his most recent appearance being at the 2023 World Cup.

The 27-year-old, who was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, has Samoan heritage and began his Super Rugby career with the now-defunct Melbourne Rebels in 2018.

“I’m extremely excited at the opportunity ahead with Moana Pasifika, to be able to share my knowledge and experiences and also learn from a talented group of men. Being able to learn from a coach like Tana (Umaga) is really exciting,” Fa’amausili commented.

He added, “Joining a team like Moana allows me to connect with my culture and represent my people, which is really important and will be special to do so for my family.”

Moana Pasifika’s head coach, Fa’alogo Tana Umaga, praised Fa’amausili as a “powerful player who brings physicality and experience… and further strengthens our pack.”

Earlier this year, Moana Pasifika made headlines by signing All Blacks flanker Ardie Savea on a three-year deal and more recently, first five Jackson Garden-Bachop.
