Missed Opportunities but Impressive Effort: Coach’s Take

FIJI Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne believes his team could have capitalized more on their attacking plays during the Test against Georgia on Saturday.

While Byrne was impressed with the team’s defensive performance, he acknowledged that they missed some valuable opportunities while on the offensive.

Byrne noted that Georgia met their expectations in terms of physicality and breakdown challenges, and he expressed pride in how his team held their ground.

“We knew what Georgia was going to bring and they brought every bit of that. They were physical at the breakdown and challenged us around that area, but we stuck with them all the way until the end and came away with the win,” Byrne said.

“From an attacking perspective, we missed a couple of opportunities, but I’m still very happy with the effort of the players and extremely impressed with the way our players worked hard tonight.”

The win sets up the tempo for the significant Test match against the All Blacks next weekend.

Reinforcements, including player Semi Radradra, have joined the team in camp. Radradra was recently in Fiji for personal matters and also officiated at the 2nd Radradra 7s tournament in Welagi, Taveuni.

Fiji and the All Blacks are scheduled to play in San Diego, USA, on July 20.
