Miss Hibiscus Melania Tora Celebrated in Grand Village Ceremony

Melania Tora, crowned Miss Hibiscus, received a traditional welcome ceremony in her village of Sabeto, Nadi, on Saturday. The Vanua o Betoraurau community celebrated her victory, highlighting her efforts in promoting her hometown of Nadi and the nation of Fiji globally, according to clan leader Kiniviliame Mokotanavanua.

The event featured the presence of Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, who expressed pride in Tora’s accomplishments. He emphasized that her success serves as a source of hope and inspiration for many. “Congratulations to our amazing vulau (daughter)!” he remarked.

Ms. Tora, who was sponsored by Tents and Awnings, received her crown two weeks ago. During the ceremony, Ratu Viliame praised her for embodying the spirit of their village and representing her roots with pride. He noted that while her personal name may not be widely known, the name of her vanua and chiefly house, Na Momo na Tui Sabeto, has gained recognition throughout Fiji and beyond.

In her remarks, Ms. Tora acknowledged her chief and the support of her village during her journey in the festival, stating, “It was through your support, your guidance, and your prayers that I was able to achieve the Miss Hibiscus crown. Thank you.”
