The Suva City Council has been tasked with investigating a sexual harassment allegation linked to the Miss Hibiscus Festival. This directive was given by the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, to Special Administrator Tevita Boseiwaqa, who chairs the council.
Mr. Nalumisa expressed his concerns regarding the handling of the situation by the Hibiscus committee. He emphasized that the ministry maintains a strict policy against any form of misconduct.
The allegation arose after a contestant reported feeling “uncomfortable” following an alleged groping incident during the post-crowning cocktail event held in the festival’s VIP tent. The minister highlighted the necessity of ensuring safety and dignity for all participants, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to fostering a secure and respectful environment at public events.
