Miss Hibiscus Contestant’s Shocking Allegations Prompt Police Investigation

Authorities are set to investigate a sexual harassment complaint made by a contestant in the Miss Hibiscus competition. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was filed at the Totogo Police Station on Friday and that an investigation is now underway.

The allegations came to light last week when a contestant revealed to the Fiji Sun that she was allegedly “jabbed on the back” by a guest during the crowning event on September 7. The incident has drawn the attention of the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who has ordered an internal investigation into the allegations.

Minister Nalumisa stated that a team has been appointed to thoroughly investigate what transpired that night. He emphasized the need for maintaining professionalism to protect the dignity of all contestants and assured that the matter would be thoroughly examined.

He expects the investigation to be concluded within the week. Last week, Nalumisa reached out to Tevita Boseiwaqa, chairperson of the Suva City Council special administration, who is also involved in the investigating team.

The contestant has formally reported the incident at the police station. Although she initially planned to wait for a witness returning from abroad before taking action, she opted to proceed with her complaint after discussing it with her family.

The contestant alleges that a reportedly intoxicated man jabbed her on the back, and she immediately informed event officials about the incident. Minister Nalumisa remarked that alcohol should never serve as an excuse for such unsuitable behavior.
