Miss Hibiscus Contest Under Investigation: Allegations of Groping Surface

Authorities are launching an investigation into a sexual harassment complaint filed by a contestant from the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was made at the Totogo Police Station on Friday, and an investigation is currently in progress.

The issue came to light after a contestant reported feeling ‘groped’ by a guest during the crowning ceremony on September 7. This prompted the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, to initiate an internal inquiry into the allegations.

Mr. Nalumisa stated that a dedicated team is working to uncover the facts surrounding the incident. He emphasized the need for professionalism to ensure the safety and integrity of all pageant participants. He expects the investigation to conclude within the week.

In the days following the incident, Mr. Nalumisa conferred with Tevita Boseiwaqa, the special administration chairperson of the Suva City Council, who is also involved in the investigation.

The contestant filed her complaint at the police station, although she initially planned to wait for a witness to return from abroad. After discussions with her family, she decided to move forward with the report without further delay.

She alleges that a man, believed to be intoxicated, jabbed her in the back, and she reported the incident to event officials immediately. Meanwhile, Mr. Nalumisa remarked that alcohol consumption should never serve as an excuse for such behavior.
