Police are investigating a report of alleged sexual harassment made by a contestant of the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a complaint was filed at the Totogo Police Station on Friday, initiating an investigation.

The allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced last week when a contestant claimed she was groped by a guest during the crowning event on September 7. This incident caught the attention of the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who has mandated an internal investigation to determine the events of that night.

Minister Nalumisa stated that maintaining professionalism is essential to protect all contestants in the pageant and expressed his commitment to uncovering the truth. He expects the investigation to be completed within the week.

Nalumisa also mentioned that he had contacted Tevita Boseiwaqa, the chairperson of the Suva City Council special administration, who is involved in the investigation. The contestant lodged her complaint after initially waiting for a witness to return from abroad. After discussions with her family, she decided to report the incident promptly.

She alleges that a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, jabbed her in the back and that she informed event officials right away. Meanwhile, Minister Nalumisa emphasized that alcohol consumption should never be used as an excuse for such inappropriate actions.
