The 1967 Miss Hibiscus contest garnered significant attention as the contest committee expressed satisfaction with the number of entries received, as reported in The Fiji Times. The publication shared a press release revealing four out of the eight contestants participating in this year’s pageant.
Initially, the committee had anticipated attracting 18 participants. The latest entrants included Miss Clara Hoong, Miss Linda Hadden, Miss Annette Lepper, and Miss Ann Ah Jack.
Nineteen-year-old Miss Clara Hoong, a stenographer, enjoys reading, dressmaking, playing indoor basketball, badminton, and watching movies. She is sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres, in collaboration with Caines Jannif Limited.
Twenty-year-old Miss Linda Hadden, also a secretary/stenographer, is backed by Burns Philp (South Sea) Company Limited. Her primary interests are horse riding, swimming, dancing, and reading.
Miss Annette Lepper, a 21-year-old receptionist/clerk, is sponsored by the Fiji Hotel Association. Her hobbies include swimming, water-skiing, reading, and cooking.
Nineteen-year-old Miss Ann Ah Jack works as a cashier and is sponsored by Morris Hedstrom Limited. She enjoys basketball, dancing, gardening, meeting new people, and collecting records.
The contestants’ full itinerary was prepared before the festival, which ran from September 7 to October 8, 1967.
