Anaisi Tavuinaulu, a 19-year-old second-year Environmental Science student at the University of Fiji, is set to leverage the FMF Bula Festival as a platform to raise awareness about the effects of climate change on human health. Sponsored by the Nadi Town Council, she expressed her motivation to participate in the festival, stating that her mother inspired her to take part.

Tavuinaulu emphasized the significance of environmental conservation, particularly for the youth, urging them to recognize the environment’s critical role as a source of income and sustenance. “We have to protect the environment for future generations,” she remarked.

As one of nine contestants competing for the Miss FMF Bula Festival 2025 crown, Tavuinaulu is preparing for an event that will take place from July 19 to July 26, which promises to celebrate both culture and community spirit.

This year’s festival is noted for its focus on advocacy and social issues, aligning with similar past initiatives where contestants promoted health, well-being, and environmental stewardship. For instance, participants have previously engaged in community clean-up initiatives, underscoring their commitment to maintaining clean environments for improved public health.

By highlighting critical climate and health issues, Tavuinaulu’s participation reflects a broader trend within local festivals, emphasizing the role of young women in advocating for sustainable practices and community well-being in Fiji. Through her engagement, she hopes to inspire others to take actionable steps toward protecting the planet for the next generations.

The festival symbolizes a hopeful message of unity and responsibility, allowing contestants to effect change while emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness in today’s world. Tavuinaulu’s ambitious goals exemplify a commitment to sustainability and a brighter future.
