Miss Fiji Ailava Samuels has emphasized the significance of leadership and digital literacy as she reflects on her journey through the pageant world. As the eldest sibling in her family, Samuels noted that her early experiences in leadership came from serving her siblings and prioritizing their needs. Her time in the pageant arena has further ingrained in her the values of responsibility, accountability, and empathy.
“Leadership is not about the position, but the impact you can make,” she asserted, conveying that true leadership involves serving with passion and fully embracing the responsibilities that accompany such roles.
In addition to leadership, Ms. Samuels highlighted an urgent need for digital literacy and proper social media etiquette within schools in Fiji. She pointed out that while students are often taught how to use technology, they lack guidance on appropriate online behavior.
“Freedom of speech comes with responsibility,” she remarked, stressing the importance of utilizing digital platforms for positive purposes rather than harm. Ms. Samuels urged educational institutions to take the initiative in teaching students to navigate online spaces safely and responsibly, underlining the potential for technology to foster a constructive influence in communities.
