Six passengers and their pilot are fortunate to have escaped serious injuries following a landing incident at the Yasawa Aerodrome yesterday. The Fiji Government confirmed that the aircraft involved was a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN.

The plane took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 am and, upon its arrival at Yasawa Aerodrome, it miscalculated its landing position and overran the runway, coming to rest just outside the designated strip. Thankfully, the incident resulted in only minor injuries, although the aircraft did sustain some damage to its nose wheel and propeller.

Despite this event, the runway at Yasawa Aerodrome remains open and operational, allowing for continued aviation activities. In a proactive response, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, has announced the appointment of an investigator to conduct a thorough examination of the incident, adhering to established procedures and international safety standards. The outcome of this investigation is expected to lead to enhanced safety measures, ensuring that similar incidents can be prevented in the future.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in aviation. The swift actions taken by the authorities, along with the resilience of the passengers and crew, underscore a positive attitude toward learning and improving safety protocols in the aviation industry.
