An incident involving a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN, took place at Yasawa Aerodrome on Saturday morning, December 21, 2024. The aircraft took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM, but during its landing at Yasawa Aerodrome, it overran the runway and came to a halt just beyond the runway boundary.
Fortunately, the aircraft only sustained damage to its nose wheel and propeller, and remarkably, both the pilot and six passengers on board were unharmed, with no injuries reported. The Yasawa Aerodrome runway remains operational, and aviation activities are continuing as normal.
The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, has announced that an investigator will be appointed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident, adhering to established protocols and international safety standards. The insights gained from this investigation will be instrumental in implementing any necessary measures to further enhance safety in the aviation sector.
The safety and welfare of all passengers and crew continue to be a top priority for the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation in Fiji. The ministry also expressed appreciation for the swift response and support from relevant authorities and personnel involved.
