An aircraft incident involving a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN, took place at Yasawa Aerodrome on the morning of December 21, 2024. The plane took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM but, upon landing, it overran the runway, coming to a halt just beyond the runway limits. Fortunately, the aircraft only suffered damage to its nose wheel and propeller.
In a positive development, both the pilot and the six passengers on board were unharmed, with no injuries reported. Aviation operations at Yasawa Aerodrome continue unimpeded, as the runway remains operational.
In response to the incident, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, has announced that an investigator will be appointed to conduct a comprehensive investigation according to established procedures and international standards. The results of this investigation will be crucial in guiding any future safety enhancements.
