A multi-million-dollar hangar project at COMO Laucala Island is unlikely to open within the next two months, according to sources familiar with the development. However, when completed, the hangar is expected to boost employment on the island.
The construction of the project at Nadi has faced several delays and has seen multiple “Coming Soon” announcements throughout its inconsistent history. Although the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport is operational, the hangar was anticipated to be completed by the year’s end.
Once the hangar at Nadi airport is completed, it will provide a more streamlined experience for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. COMO Laucala Island stated, “Guests arriving on international flights will be welcomed at the information desk in the arrivals hall before being taken directly to our new luxury lounge. This lounge will offer refreshments, entertainment, a playroom for families, and shower facilities for those looking to refresh after long flights.” Additionally, departing guests will enjoy the amenities of the luxury lounge while awaiting their connecting flights.
The delay in the hangar’s completion was attributed in part to issues with the concrete mix used for the apron, which had to be excavated and replaced, according to reliable sources.
In 2019, the construction of COMO Laucala Island’s $45 million luxury lounge and hangar was announced, while a stop order was issued in 2022, which was later lifted in 2023.
Laucala Island is known as a luxury destination favored by high-profile individuals, as noted by Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica. He previously mentioned that delays were caused by bottlenecks in the investment process.
COMO Laucala Island is a private resort in Fiji featuring an airstrip for private aircraft and 25 villas that redefine luxury. The property operates three aircraft that have been in service for several years.
