Miracle Needed for Luxurious Hangar Delay at COMO Laucala Island

A multi-million-dollar hangar project at COMO Laucala Island is facing significant delays, with sources indicating that it will require a “miracle” to open within the next two months. Once completed, this project is expected to boost employment figures at COMO Laucala Island.

The Nadi project has experienced numerous “Coming Soon” announcements during its inconsistent construction timeline. Although the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport is now operational, the hangar was initially slated for completion by the end of this year.

The new hangar at Nadi airport aims to create a smooth transition for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. COMO Laucala Island has outlined that international arrivals will be welcomed at an information desk in the arrivals hall, followed by direct transfers to the luxury lounge, equipped with refreshments, entertainment, family playrooms, and shower facilities for travelers coming off long-haul flights. Guests will also have access to the luxury lounge while waiting for their return flights from Fiji.

The delay in the hangar’s opening can be attributed to a mistake involving the mixing of concrete on the connecting apron, which had to be excavated and redone.

In terms of project milestones, the luxury lounge and hangar facility were announced in 2019 with a budget of $45 million, construction faced a stop order in 2022, but it resumed in 2023.

Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica noted that Laucala Island is well-known as a destination for high-profile visitors. He previously indicated that development delays were linked to complications for investors.

COMO Laucala Island, a private resort in Fiji, features its own airstrip for private flights and 25 villas designed to redefine luxury. The property operates three aircraft that have been in service for several years.
