Six passengers and their pilot narrowly avoided serious injuries during a landing mishap at Yasawa Aerodrome. The incident involved a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN, which occurred shortly after departing from Nadi Airport at 9:49 am. Upon landing, the aircraft overshot the runway, ultimately stopping just outside its strip.
The aircraft suffered damage to its nose wheel and propeller, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported among those onboard. Yasawa Aerodrome’s runway remains operational, allowing aviation activities to continue without interruption.
In response to the incident, Viliame Gavoka, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, has announced plans to appoint an investigator to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the accident. This investigation will adhere to established procedures and international safety standards, with its findings aimed at implementing measures to further enhance aviation safety.
This incident, while unfortunate, highlights the resilience of safety protocols in aviation, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of constant vigilance and continuous improvement in air travel safety measures.
