Protecting vulnerable children from the detrimental effects of drug and alcohol abuse has been identified as a vital priority for the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection this year.

Minister Sashi Kiran kicked off the Ministry’s initiatives for the new year with a visit to the Western Division, where she engaged with Empower Pacific to discuss rehabilitation programs specifically aimed at children impacted by substance abuse. Kiran emphasized the necessity of early support and recovery services to secure a brighter future for affected children.

Empower Pacific highlighted its commitment to addressing these challenges with trained social workers stationed across various divisions. The organization is dedicated to collaborating with communities to implement solutions that honor cultural sensitivity and cater to local needs.

Additionally, Kiran met with families benefitting from income-generation assistance through social protection programs. She noted that such support not only helps families increase their earnings but also fosters the creation of safer, more nurturing environments for their children.

This proactive approach by the Ministry underscores a significant commitment to safeguarding the well-being of children and strengthening community resilience against substance abuse. By focusing on recovery and economic support, the Ministry aims to foster healthier futures for families across the region.
