The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has disbursed $5.9 million in overtime claims to healthcare workers during the first five months of the current financial year, recognizing the vital role that overtime plays in maintaining the nation’s health system amid persistent staffing shortages.

In its statement, the Ministry confirmed that these payments encompass established staff and government wage earners, emphasizing its commitment to fairly recompensing healthcare personnel for the extra hours worked during periods of increased demand. The Ministry explained that overtime continues to be a crucial element in guaranteeing uninterrupted healthcare services, particularly as the sector grapples with workforce limitations.

This latest payout demonstrates the Ministry’s ongoing endeavor to resolve outstanding claims and support frontline workers effectively. Additionally, the finance and administration teams are diligently collating and reviewing overtime submissions from all cost centers to ensure the accuracy of outstanding claims.

Following the completion of the recent Pay 26 inputting cycle, the Ministry stated that any remaining eligible overtime payments are slated for resolution within the first and second pay periods of 2026.

The Ministry took the opportunity to express gratitude to healthcare workers for their continued patience and dedication, reiterating its commitment to addressing outstanding overtime issues and ensuring that all eligible personnel receive their rightful entitlements. This proactive approach not only addresses immediate financial concerns for workers but also reflects a larger commitment to strengthening the healthcare workforce and maintaining essential services across the nation.
