The Ministry of Employment has successfully filled two-thirds of its vacant positions across all divisions, enhancing its ability to serve the public. Permanent Secretary Maritino Nemani announced this development during a review of the 2022 Auditor General’s Report on the General Administration Sector last week.

In his statement, Nemani noted that the ministry had a total of 31 vacant positions in 2022 and 2023. Since then, the ministry has successfully filled 52 positions, which includes the 31 from the previous year. He explained that the number exceeded the initial count due to staff resignations, causing fluctuations in the total employee count.

Nemani highlighted the ministry’s improved strategies for attracting and filling job vacancies, which led to a minimal number of unfilled positions remaining. He acknowledged the past challenges the human resources team faced in fulfilling their roles but expressed optimism about the current situation, stating that the ministry is now well-resourced to provide essential services in regions such as Lautoka, Labasa, and Central Eastern areas.
