The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection recently held a meeting with the Chair of the Education Commission aimed at enhancing cooperation on critical issues such as inclusive education, child protection, girls’ access to education, and targeted support for vulnerable learners.

The discussions addressed the alarming rise in school dropouts, emphasizing the urgent need for early interventions. This includes the development of alternative learning pathways and skills training opportunities that can facilitate sustainable employment for those who leave the school system early.

Additionally, the meeting underscored the importance of improving early childhood education and child nutrition, which are vital for supporting learning and development. Ensuring that children with special needs receive appropriate assistance within educational settings was also a focal point.

Minister Sashi Kiran underscored that education serves not only as a gateway to knowledge but also as a crucial protective measure for children’s overall well-being. Concerns regarding child safety in school transport were raised, highlighting an area needing coordinated efforts between various stakeholders.

Acting Permanent Secretary Kuruleca reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to advancing initiatives that promote inclusive education and uphold children’s rights, particularly for girls, children with disabilities, and those from at-risk backgrounds. The Chair of the Education Commission acknowledged the significance of inter-ministerial collaboration in developing child-centered education reforms, reinforcing the shared commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all children.

This proactive approach reflects a hopeful outlook for the future of education, emphasizing the necessity of collective responsibility in securing a better learning environment for all children, ultimately leading to a brighter tomorrow.
