Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs Pio Tikoduadua has expressed that he bears no animosity towards Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka after the Prime Minister reassigned his two additional portfolios following a thorough inquiry that cleared him of any wrongdoing. In 2024, Tikoduadua temporarily stepped back from his roles in Home Affairs and Immigration to facilitate an inquiry concerning the unauthorized passport issuance related to members of the Grace Road Group.
In a conversation with FijiLive, Tikoduadua emphasized that it is within the Prime Minister’s authority to decide the composition of his Cabinet. When asked about the stance of the National Federation Party on the notion of three Independent MPs serving as Ministers for Policing, Immigration, and Environment, Tikoduadua reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s solidarity, stating their commitment remains unshaken despite these changes.
Tikoduadua remarked that the decision to appoint additional ministers is solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister, indicating that it is not a matter of concern for him. He reiterated the National Federation Party’s strong ties to the Coalition, emphasizing their continued support and commitment to the governing body.
Earlier in the month, Prime Minister Rabuka confirmed that Tikoduadua had been exonerated from allegations while he served as the head of the Department of Immigrations. However, he noted that investigations concerning claims of the unauthorized issuance of passports to children linked to the Grace Road Group had concluded and the findings are now with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further evaluation.
This situation highlights the ongoing developments within Fiji’s political landscape and serves as a reminder of the importance of oversight in government operations, particularly in matters regarding national security and immigration. As the investigation proceeds, there is a hopeful anticipation for clarity and resolution that will reinforce public trust in government processes and promote accountability among officials.
