Fisheries and Forests Minister Alitia Bainivalu recently explored two promising aquaculture pond sites in Kadavu, located in the villages of Tabuya and Solovola, part of the Nabukelevu District. During her visit, she also toured a seaweed farm at Cevai, owned by local entrepreneur Maika Vunituraga.

Bainivalu’s trip to Kadavu began last week with meetings with government officials at the Vunisea Government Station. Her visit wrapped up with a stop at the Kavala Fisheries Station, emphasizing the government’s commitment to developing sustainable aquaculture practices in the region.

This initiative highlights the potential for aquaculture to boost local economies and provide sustainable food sources in Fiji. By exploring these options, the government aims to improve food security and promote environmentally friendly practices that can benefit both communities and the ecosystem.

Overall, Minister Bainivalu’s engagement in Kadavu reflects a proactive approach toward enhancing fisheries and aquaculture, which could lead to promising opportunities for local growth and development.
