Fisheries and Forests Minister Alitia Bainivalu recently explored two promising locations for aquaculture ponds in Kadavu, specifically in the villages of Tabuya and Solovola within the Nabukelevu District. During her visit, the Minister also inspected a local seaweed farm run by Maika Vunituraga in Cevai.
Bainivalu’s tour of Kadavu began last week, where she engaged with government officials at the Vunisea Government Station. The trip wrapped up with a visit to the Kavala Fisheries Station, allowing her to assess various initiatives and enhance government-fisheries collaboration in the region.
This proactive approach taken by Minister Bainivalu highlights the commitment to promoting sustainable aquaculture practices, which can boost local economies and provide food security for communities. Improving aquaculture could lead to enhanced livelihoods for local fishermen, as well as create job opportunities in the region.
Overall, initiatives like these not only focus on economic growth but also aim to promote environmental sustainability within the fisheries sector, paving the way for a brighter future for Kadavu’s communities.
