Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her role as Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, citing her conduct as not meeting the standards expected of government ministers. This decision comes in light of a private video involving Tabuya that has recently circulated, raising concerns about her suitability for the position.

Under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, Rabuka’s decision is effective immediately, although Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament. The Assistant Women’s Minister, Sashi Kiran, has been appointed to take over the portfolio, pending her formal swearing-in by the President.

This change in leadership may offer a chance for a renewed focus on the responsibilities of the Ministry, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within its ranks. With Sashi Kiran stepping in, there is hope for continued advocacy for women’s and children’s rights in Fiji.

In summary, the dismissal of Tabuya marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to uphold standards among its officials, while introducing new leadership that may bring fresh perspectives to the important issues within her former ministry.
