A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being accused of stealing a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The court is scheduled to hear his bail application today. Sitiveni Tavakece appeared at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing two theft charges and one charge for possession of a firearm without a license.
On September 25, Tavakece allegedly took a 9mm pistol valued at $1,500 unlawfully. He is also accused of stealing three souvenir medals from the RFMF. Reports indicate that the state plans to file a third charge against him today. The case has been adjourned to 9:30 a.m. for further proceedings, and bail has been denied.
