Labasa businessman Jamendra Singh has marked a significant milestone by becoming the first heart patient from Fiji’s Northern Division to successfully undergo open-heart bypass surgery at Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals in Nadi. The 54-year-old, from Bulileka in Labasa, had experienced chest pains for six months prior to his surgery, leading him to seek treatment options on Viti Levu.
Mr. Singh expressed gratitude for the exceptional care and world-class treatment he received at PSH, stating, “After six months of running around, I am happy to have received treatment right here in Nadi from one of the best specialists.” Following an angiogram in Nadi, doctors determined that a bypass surgery was necessary, as stenting was not suitable for his condition.
His medical insurance provider, BSP Life, streamlined the paperwork for his surgery, which was conducted by the highly respected cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey and his dedicated team. Mr. Singh praised the “VIP service” at PSH and emphasized that he would inform others in Labasa that high-quality healthcare is available locally, mitigating the need for costly overseas procedures.
Furthermore, Mr. Singh commended PSH’s plans to establish a cardiology department in Labasa, which he believes would significantly benefit the community. Parvish Kumar, founder and CEO of PSH, confirmed ongoing enhancements in medical technology and services at the hospital, contributing to improved local healthcare access.
This development in local healthcare showcases the advancements in medical services available within Fiji and presents a hopeful outlook for patients like Mr. Singh. As more residents regain access to critical treatments closer to home, it also opens avenues for the potential growth of health tourism in the region. By promoting high-quality, affordable medical care, PSH is paving the way for a more accessible healthcare landscape, improving health outcomes and economic prospects for the community.
