The temporary bypass road at Semo Village on the Queens Highway is set to fully open to the public at midnight, marking a significant milestone for local transportation. The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is currently finalizing the necessary work on this bypass, which has been constructed to improve travel for residents and visitors alike.

The FRA expresses its appreciation to the communities nearby, particularly the residents of Semo and Nalele villages, for their cooperation and support throughout the construction phase. Special thanks were also extended to the landowners in Semo for facilitating immediate access that allowed for the timely commencement of the works, and to the Nalele villagers for their assistance in managing traffic during the construction period.

Motorists using the newly opened road are advised to exercise caution and adhere strictly to all posted safety signs to ensure a safe traveling experience.

The FRA has recognized that the issues experienced at the Semo crossing reflect broader challenges facing Fiji’s aging road infrastructure. Efforts are already underway to replace similar structures along the Nadi–Sigatoka corridor. The FRA remains committed to upgrading and replacing critical infrastructure as part of its strategic initiatives to enhance road safety and accessibility for all users.

This opening is not just a road improvement; it represents a broader commitment to enhancing Fiji’s infrastructure, reflecting a positive step towards better connectivity and community support in the region.
