Prominent midfielder Ashnil Raju is set to make his return to the Inter-District champions Labasa for the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup taking place in Lautoka this week. Raju, who missed the IDC due to family obligations, will significantly bolster the Babasiga Lions’ midfield.
Coach Ravneel Pratap expressed confidence, noting that all key players from their victorious IDC squad, including Solomon Islanders Tigi Molea and Junior Fordney, will be present for the tournament. Unfortunately, Australia-based Anish Khem will not be joining the team due to work commitments.
Labasa faces a challenging Group B, which includes defending champions Auckland All Stars, Rewa, and the USA All Stars. The team is eager to kick off their campaign with their first match against the American side at 4:30 PM tomorrow.
This tournament presents an exciting opportunity for Labasa, especially with Raju’s return. His presence on the field may be the catalyst needed for the team to perform exceptionally and progress further in the competition. As fans eagerly await the matches, there’s a sense of optimism about Labasa’s potential in this high-stakes event.
