Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a generous sponsorship worth over $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This initiative is aimed at improving facilities that not only benefit athletes but also enhance the overall well-being of the local community.

During the official launch at their Nadi office, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, Sitiveni Nawaqa, revealed that the two-day tournament will take place from December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School. He emphasized that this event is more than just a celebration of rugby; it symbolizes the strong sense of community, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes in the area.

“Rugby transcends being merely a sport; it serves as a unifying force that fosters passion and teamwork,” Nawaqa stated. He went on to highlight the importance of grassroots rugby in shaping the future of society. By investing in youth and encouraging their talents, Nawaqa believes it is possible to cultivate character development and lifelong friendships.

With family ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, Nawaqa expressed his dedication not just to the sport but also to the local communities it originates from. He stated that as a proud sponsor, he is enthusiastic about directing funds towards improving village infrastructure.

Recognizing that strong communities provide an ideal environment for sports to flourish, he aims to ensure that local facilities reflect the pride and aspirations of the Vatulele people.

Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu shared that the funds raised from the event would be used to enhance facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs. “Creating safe and accessible spaces for children and future athletes will help them develop their skills and foster community involvement,” he noted, adding that these improvements aim to inspire participation not only in rugby but across all sports.

The tournament will offer prizes for the men’s rugby champions, including $5,000 for the winners, $2,000 for the runners-up, and $500 for each losing semifinalist. The women’s netball competition will award $1,000 to the winners and $500 to the runners-up.

Asesela Naborisi, the treasurer, remarked, “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates the power of hard work, commitment, and teamwork. Let us support each other, celebrate our talents, and invest in a brighter future.”

Other sponsors supporting this event include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.

This event promises to not only invigorate local sports but also strengthen community ties, showing a commitment to nurturing future generations. The collaboration and enthusiasm surrounding the tournament are commendable, as they lay the foundation for a brighter and more united future for the Vatulele people.
