Mick’s Fiji Tours has committed over $5,000 in sponsorship for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, demonstrating a strong dedication to enhancing local facilities that support athletes and enrich the broader community. This announcement came from the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, Sitiveni Nawaqa, during the official launch held at their Nadi office.

Scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day event aims to celebrate rugby while highlighting the spirit of community, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes. Nawaqa emphasized that rugby transcends mere sport, serving as a unifying force that fosters teamwork and ignites passion among participants.

He noted that grassroots rugby has the ability to mold the future of society, highlighting the importance of investing in youth and nurturing their talents to promote character development and lifelong friendships. Ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda further underscore Nawaqa’s commitment to supporting not just the sport but the very foundations of the communities where these athletes come from.

As a proud supporter, Nawaqa expressed excitement over the investment aimed at upgrading village infrastructure, indicating that resilient communities provide a conducive environment for sports to flourish. Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu explained that funds generated from the event will enhance facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs, ultimately creating safe and productive spaces for children and future athletes to develop their skills.

The tournament promises cash prizes, with the men’s rugby winner receiving $5,000, the runner-up $2,000, and $500 for each losing semifinalist. In netball, the women’s winner will take home $1,000 and the runner-up $500. Treasurer Asesela Naborisi highlighted the potential to build a lasting legacy through hard work, commitment, and teamwork, encouraging community support and celebration of local talents.

Other sponsors contributing to the tournament include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.

This commitment from Mick’s Fiji Tours not only supports rugby but also promises to elevate community engagement, build infrastructure, and foster the next generation of athletes, creating a bright future for all involved.
