Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a generous sponsorship commitment exceeding $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This initiative is designed to improve facilities that will benefit not only athletes but also the broader community.
During the official launch held at their Nadi office, Sitiveni Nawaqa, owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, shared that the two-day tournament scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School represents more than just a rugby competition; it exemplifies community spirit, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes.
“Rugby transcends being just a sport; it serves as a unifying force that fosters passion and teamwork,” Nawaqa commented. “Grassroots rugby has the unique ability to shape our society’s future. By investing in our youth and nurturing their talents, we can pave the way for character development and lifelong friendships.”
Nawaqa, who has familial ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, emphasized his dedication to supporting not just rugby but the communities that are foundational to the sport. “As a proud sponsor, we are thrilled to channel our investment into enhancing village infrastructure,” he stated. “Strong, resilient communities are vital for sports to thrive, and we aim to ensure that local facilities reflect the spirit and ambitions of the Vatulele people.”
Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu highlighted that proceeds from the event will go towards improving school facilities, sports fields, and youth training programs. “Creating safe and accessible spaces for our children and aspiring athletes is crucial for their development,” he noted. “We hope these upgrades will encourage participation in rugby and foster community engagement.”
The tournament offers enticing prizes: the men’s rugby champion will receive $5,000, with $2,000 for the runner-up and $500 for each losing semifinalist. The women’s netball champions will receive $1,000, while the runners-up will be awarded $500.
Treasurer Asesela Naborisi expressed an inspiring vision for the event: “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates that, with hard work, commitment, and teamwork, there are no limits to what we can achieve. Let us support each other, celebrate our talents, and invest in a brighter future.”
Additional support for the tournament comes from various sponsors, including Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.
This community-focused initiative showcases the potential of sports as a powerful driver for social improvement and youth development in Fiji. Such events not only enhance athletic opportunities but also strengthen community bonds and create lasting legacies.
