Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced its sponsorship of over $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, highlighting a commitment to not only support athletic endeavors but also enrich community infrastructure. Owner Sitiveni Nawaqa shared this pledge during the tournament’s official launch at their Nadi office.

Scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day event is more than just a rugby celebration; it signifies the strength and resilience of the community as well as the potential of its young athletes. Nawaqa emphasized that rugby serves a vital role in uniting people, creating passion, and fostering teamwork. He believes that grassroots rugby holds the key to shaping future generations and enhancing character development and friendships among youth.

Nawaqa, who has familial ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda, underscored his dedication to supporting the foundations that rugby stands on: the local villages and communities. He expressed excitement over the investment aiming to improve village infrastructure, emphasizing the role strong communities play in cultivating sports and activities.

Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu noted that the funds raised during the event will be directed towards enhancing facilities in educational institutions, sports fields, and youth training programs. This initiative aims to create safe spaces for the youth, encouraging participation not only in rugby but also in various sports and community activities.

The tournament will reward participants, with the men’s rugby champion receiving $5,000, the runner-up $2,000, and losing semifinalists each taking home $500. For women’s netball, the winner receives $1,000 while the runner-up gets $500.

Treasurer Asesela Naborisi remarked on the collective effort: “Together, we can build a legacy. A legacy that shows them that with hard work, commitment, and teamwork, there are no limits to what they can achieve.” He urged the community to support, celebrate one another’s talents, and invest towards a brighter future.

Additional sponsors for the tournament include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.

This event is a promising opportunity for fostering sportsmanship and uplifting the local community, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in constructive activities. As the tournament approaches, there’s hope that it will not only showcase athletic talent but also strengthen community bonds and encourage future initiatives.
