Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a sponsorship of over $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, highlighting their commitment to enhancing local facilities that benefit both athletes and the wider community. This initiative was unveiled by Sitiveni Nawaqa, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, during the event’s official launch at their Nadi office.

Set to take place on December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day tournament is envisioned as more than just a celebration of rugby. Nawaqa emphasized that it embodies the spirit of community, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes. He stated, “Rugby is more than a sport; it is a unifying force that brings people together, ignites passion, and fosters teamwork.” He believes that grassroots rugby is vital for shaping the future of society and that investing in young people can cultivate character development and lifelong friendships.

With familial ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda, Nawaqa expressed his dedication to supporting not only the sport itself but also the foundational roots of the community it represents. He underscored the importance of strong, resilient communities in providing an environment where sports can thrive and noted that investments would go towards upgrading village infrastructure.

Filipe Qionikorolevu, the tournament director, explained that proceeds from the event will be directed towards improving facilities within schools, sports fields, and youth training programs. He stated, “We create safe and accessible spaces for our children and future athletes to hone their skills and grow.” The hope is that these upgrades will promote participation in all forms of sport and enhance community engagement.

The tournament will feature a competitive prize pool, with the men’s rugby winners receiving $5,000, the runners-up $2,000, and losing semifinalists $500 each. Additionally, the women’s netball winners will earn $1,000, while the runners-up will receive $500.

In conclusion, Treasurer Asesela Naborisi highlighted the importance of collaboration, saying, “Together, we can build a legacy.” He encouraged everyone to support each other and invest in a brighter future.

This event not only promises thrilling competition but also signifies a community’s commitment to nurturing its youth and fostering an environment of teamwork and mutual support. With contributions from various sponsors, including Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix, the tournament is poised to create lasting positive impacts both on and off the field.
