The fatal explosion outside a police station in Coahuayana, located in the western Mexican state of Michoacán, has left five individuals dead, as confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office on Sunday. The devastating incident, which occurred around midday on Saturday, also led to injuries for twelve others.
The explosion took place in a region that is heavily impacted by criminal activity, primarily due to the presence of various criminal organizations, including the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel. In response to the escalating violence in Michoacán, the government has recently implemented a significant security operation aimed at restoring order and safety in the area.
Authorities reported that the explosion was caused by a pickup truck laden with explosives. Among the casualties, three of the deceased and five of the injured individuals were affiliated with a community police force, underscoring the grave risks faced by those working to uphold security in the region.
