After 17 years of operations, the MHCC Complex in Suva has celebrated its anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the retail landscape of Fiji. Kunaseelan Sabaratnam, Director for Carpenters Finance, emphasized the unique role that MHCC plays as the first shopping mall of its kind in the country, offering a diverse range of services and products all under one roof.

Sabaratnam highlighted the importance of the complex’s establishment, noting that it was designed to meet the needs of consumers by providing everything from supermarkets to fashion boutiques. He shared that since its inception, MHCC has been a vital hub for shopping in Fiji, serving as a one-stop destination for various needs.

In addition to catering to customers, he also pointed out the complex’s positive impact on small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the nation. The complex allows budding entrepreneurs to start their businesses with the help of small pushcart stalls, providing them with an opportunity to gain a foothold in the market without the financial burden of leasing a full shop.

Looking toward the future, Sabaratnam announced exciting plans for renovations within the complex, including the introduction of a new tower. This initiative is expected to further enhance the shopping experience, with the first wave of changes anticipated to attract more visitors by March.

Since its opening in 2007, MHCC has not only provided customers with a convenient shopping venue but also created numerous job opportunities for Fijians, demonstrating its lasting commitment to the community.

This celebration not only marks the success of MHCC but also reflects the resilience of local businesses and the continuous support for entrepreneurship in Fiji’s retail sector. As the complex grows and evolves, it remains an inspiring example of local innovation and community support.
