The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School U15 rugby team recently caught the attention of Fiji Bati Head Coach Wise Kativerata during the Vodafone Eastern Zone Secondary School League matches held at Saint Marcelin Primary School. This comes after MGM secured a decisive 20-0 victory over Nasinu Secondary School.

Coach Kativerata expressed his enthusiasm regarding the ongoing improvement in the standard of play he has observed each year. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the national board and local schools to accurately assess the needs of players and coaches, aiming to enhance their development.

Kativerata underscored the significance of establishing a solid foundation in schools as part of a long-term goal to create a well-structured academy system. This vision aligns with MGM’s recent achievements in youth rugby and reflects a commitment to nurturing young talent in Fiji’s rugby landscape.

In prior news, MGM has shown remarkable progress in various age categories. They recently made headlines by reaching their first-ever national Vodafone Deans under-18 quarterfinals after defeating Suva Grammar School in a closely contested semifinal. Team manager Hotashwar Padarath highlighted that achieving such milestones has instilled a sense of pride and motivation in the players, as they aim to continue their winning streak.

With the growing investment in youth rugby and the focus on building strong academies, there is hope for continued growth and success in Fiji’s rugby future. The engagement of coaches like Kativerata suggests that the system is evolving positively, supporting the development of aspiring athletes across the nation.
